Aluminum Driveway Gate

Jack Davis is a metalsmith based in Elmira, Oregon. He made this gorgeous driveway gate using his Lincoln Power MIG 255C equipped with a Prince XL Spool Gun. The aluminum gate is 15 foot wide and was welded with 5356 aluminum MIG wire.

Jack selected aluminum because of weight considerations. The gate needed to be one piece and he was concerned that a steel gate of this size would put too much leverage on the post. Aluminum cuts the weight in half; in fact the finished aluminum gate, less castings, weighs only 450 lbs.
