Moose Weather Vane
by Darrell Plough
Darrell Plough went on a moose hunt in the Yukon (Canada) and became so intrigued by the animal that he decided to build a life-size moose weather vane using his Lincoln Electric POWER MIG® 215 (current model is POWER MIG® 216) wire feeder welder.
The weather vane is a little over 8 ft tall at the top of the moose's 72 inch wide horns. He is mounted on a heavy trailer axle on a wheel and the counter weights are 50 lb. tractor weights. The weather vane is very well balanced and turns to face into even the slightest breeze.
Darrell had a lot of fun building him and the moose weather vane has drawn quite a bit of interest, especially from the neighbor's horses.
The POWER MIG® 215 is Darrell's first MIG welder and he found it very easy to use and had no problems the project.
What's next for Darrell and his POWER MIG® 215? He says he's been thinking about a 16 ft Northern Pike to go above the barn door.
