Flux-Cored Welding

In the FCAW or flux-cored arc welding process, the operator starts and maintains the arc between the base material and the electrode. A tubular wire electrode with flux in the center is fed through the welding gun into the weld puddle. The tubular wire acts as a filler material while the flux protects the molten weld puddle, produces slag and may or may not require a shielding gas.
