Latest News New Deal Keeps Busch with JGR Sprint Cup driver Kyle Busch has signed a multiyear extension with Joe Gibbs Racing. Busch, who would have been entering the last year of a three-year deal with JGR, said the contract actually was completed before the end of last season. Details were not revealed. JGR president J.D. Gibbs said only that it was for less than seven years. "Multi-years," Busch said. "It means a secure future. Joe [Gibbs] and J.D. were very receptive to my ideas. I was receptive to their ideas on how to further along our relationship and our commitment to each other. To do that was to get the deal done to show our sponsors we're committed to each other." Team owner Joe Gibbs said it's definitely a long-term deal. "I may not the see the end of it, I'll put it that way," Gibbs said. Gibbs agreed it was important to get the deal finished so it wouldn't become a distraction in 2010. "The driver willing to sign over with you and the team willing to sign on and the sponsors excited about it, that says a lot," he said. "That means everybody is on the same page. We're thinking let's be the best race team we can be." Busch, who failed to make the Chase last season despite winning four races, said it didn't take much to convince him to re-sign. He did not say whether the switch from crew chief Steve Addington to Dave Rodgers at the end of the 2009 season was a factor. "Our stuff is there," he said. "It's all about having the right people in the right place." Busch has won 16 Cup races, 30 Nationwide races and 16 Truck races. Lincoln Electric is the exclusive welder of Joe Gibbs Racing. The company realized a 75-percent reduction in production time, which also translated into about a 50-percent cost savings for the teams. Launched by NASCAR in 2006, the COT is a new universal car design being used by all teams.
