Autoblog.com reports that Ford Motor Company announced to investors that it is set to introduce a slimmer aluminum Expedition in 2017 as a 2018 model. Moving Ford's largest SUV to aluminum has been rumored for a while now. The Expedition is based on the F-150, which pioneered aluminum architecture with automotive manufacturing.  The material helped the truck shed several hundred pounds and should do the same for the Expedition. New Truck Rule Recognizes Aluminum Mass Reduction Solution

New regulations that will boost the fuel economy of the nation’s heavy-duty truck fleet emphasizes mass reduction technologies such as aluminum to help reach these goals. On August 16, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) finalized a new rule requiring a 25 percent efficiency improvement by 2027 in order to cut greenhouse gas emissions from the U.S. freight transportation activities.
