Prisoners Prepare For a Second Chance     

A day for more than 200 prisoners at the Richard A. Handlon Correctional facility in Ionia, Michigan is much fuller than you might think. In what the facility calls the Vocational Village, inmates attend full day classes and plenty of hands-on training, including virtual reality welding simulation and actual lab welding. All residents of the Vocational Village are within two years of release. No additional funding was required. Misconduct is dramatically reduced, reducing stress on the staff and prisoners. White House Announces $100M Workforce Development Grant Program

The federal administration is preparing to roll out the America’s Promise Grants program distributing $100M to community colleges that develop tuition-free opportunities for unemployed, underemployed and low-income residents.
