Dual Credit Programs Taking Hold All Over the Country

Here’s another report on a dual-credit program in Pelham, Alabama. Students there and 14 other districts study welding and more at the Alabama Workforce Training Center in Birmingham. All costs are covered for the students. “We’re getting experience and nationally recognized certifications that most people don’t get until after high school when they start working in the field. By the time we finish high school, we’ll already be more certified than most other people,"said one welding student. MORE

Construction Industry Lobbies Congress on Skilled Worker Shortage     

Led by the Associated Equipment Distributors , the construction industry recently urged Congress to pass and enact the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act, which is designed to reform, update and reauthorize the Carl D. Perkins Act. Twenty-seven construction industry organizations urged passage of this act to keep technical education a priority.
