Global solution to reduce welder's exposure to welding fumes
The health of welders is our customers' priority, and ours too. As the designer and manufacturer of welding equipment and consumables, Lincoln Electric is the expert best placed for providing improvement solutions for lowering the exposure to welding fumes.
Source of welding fumes
The composition and amount of fume and gases generated by the welding process can be influenced by a number of factors, including the welding consumable, welding process, and the base material, including any rust, scale, oil paint, solvents, or other substance on the base material.
Awareness of welding fumes in workshops is key
Many governmental or regulatory bodies issue exposure limits for components of welding fume. Check your applicable regulations to determine which limits apply to your workplace. For example, hexavalent chromium, which can be found in some welding fume, is classified as CMR (carcinogenic, mutagenic and toxic for reproduction) with a Permissible Exposure Limit fixed at 1ug/m3. Always consult a qualified industrial hygienist to ensure that you and your employees are staying below the applicable limits.
KEY POINTS TO SUCCESSFUL SOLUTION:
OPTIMIZATION - COMBINATION OF THE BEST WELDING PROCESS WITH CONSUMABLES AND EQUIPMENT
When determining how to reduce welding fume in your workplace, you may need to consider a change of welding parameters, processes and consumables. In addition to potentially reducing fume generation, PURE STREAM products offer operating weldability and performance that is comparable to equivalent products on the market.
