We are pleased to announce the 2013 Southern Tier Construction Career Day will be held on October 2nd at the Broome County Highway Department complex on Route 12 in the Town of Chenango. This year’s event promises to be even bigger and better than in the past. We will be building this year’s program on the strong foundation that was originally established with local participation from construction businesses. Unfortunately, our event has been cancelled the last two years due to circumstances beyond our control including the floods of 2011. But in 2010, we exceeded our expectations by exposing over 500 area high school students from 21 area high schools to the many opportunities available in the construction industry and we look to build on the momentum.
This event is partially funded through a grant from the Federal Highway Administration that is administered through the New York State Department of Transportation. This day is not just about careers in bridge and highway construction. It’s a look at the total construction industry here in the Southern Tier, and you’re a part of that. We all realize the need to attract our youth into construction careers……those that require advanced college degrees such as architecture, engineering, project management, as well as careers with training to become trade workers such as carpenters, electricians, or plumbers. And let’s not forget all the support careers in material handling and supply.
