KANSAS CITY – Lincoln Electric was once again proud to support the welding competitions at this year’s SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference (NLSC). More than 15,000 people – including students, teachers and industry partners participated in the week-long event.
The SkillsUSA Championships is the showcase for the best career and technical students in the nation. Contests begin locally and continue through the state and national levels.
The SkillsUSA Championships were held on June 25 & 26 in Kansas City’s Bartle Hall and Municipal Auditorium. Nearly 6,000 career and technical education students – all state contest winners – competed in 94 different hands-on trade, technical and leadership fields.
Students work against the clock and each other, proving their expertise in occupations like welding, precision machining, carpentry and HVAC/R. Contests are run with the help of industry, trade associations, and labor organizations, and test competencies are set by industry. |

The NSLC event occupies a space equivalent to 16 football fields. Nearly 1,500 judges and contest organizers from labor and management make the national event possible. The philosophy of the Championships is to reward students for excellence, to involve industry in directly evaluating student performance and to keep training relevant to employers' needs.
