Wallace State Community College Announces New Center for Welding Technology and Innovation

Wallace State Community College celebrated the grand opening of the $8.8 million 30,000 sq. ft. Center of Welding Technology and Innovation Center, the largest training center in the Southeast, with their industry partner, Lincoln Electric. The Welding Technology Center includes seven robotic welding stations, nine virtual welding simulators, 81 welding booths, 20 grinding booths, a fabrication area with two welders, a plasma CNC table, pipe welding equipment and more.

Leading The Way: Triton LEEPS

Congratulations to Triton High School’s inaugural LEEPS (Lincoln Electric Education Partner School) class for achieving a 100% pass rate! All six class members received a nationally recognized credential, certified in Lincoln Electric Advanced Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW). Triton is the ONLY high school in the United States that can offer certificates in Advanced Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG) specifically for the Work Truck Industry issued by the Lincoln School of Welding.

WorldSkills Brings the World's Best Welders, Fabricators to Lincoln Electric

Last October, Lincoln Electric's Welding Technology and Training Center hosted 30 of the world’s top young welders and craftspeople at the facility for the WorldSkills 2022 welding and construction metal work competition. WorldSkills, a global skills competition held every two years, scrambled to find alternate sites for its 62 competitions as Shanghai, the original host city, could no longer accommodate the event due to COVID-19.

Gateway Technical College

In a profession that requires a steady hand and great coordination, Gateway Technical College has found a way to train its welding students, in part, through virtual reality trainers recently installed on its Racine campus. The spacing of the trainers also made them available for use even in the midst of COVID-related efforts by the college to keep it safe.

Welding Competition and Open House at Western Wyoming Community College

Western Wyoming Community College’s welding program will host the Percy Hadley High School Welding Competition on Friday, April 29. Students compete by demonstrating their skill in oxy-fuel cutting and shielded metal arc welding and must also complete an exam. Scholarships will be awarded to the top three winners; first place is $1,250, second place is $1,000 and third place is $500.
